 'Cloud Dreams 2014'
Dec 3rd Schedule - The Cranium Office
Dec 3rd Noon - 1pm      Series Introduction Lunch - The Cranium Office
Dec 3rd 1pm - 2:30pm  Screening of "Something Ventured"  - The Cranium Office
SOMETHING VENTURED tells the story of the creation of an industry that went on to become the single greatest engine of innovation and economic growth in the 20th century. It is told by the visionary risk-takers who dared to make it happen…Tom Perkins, Don Valentine, Arthur Rock, Dick Kramlich and others. The film also includes some of our finest entrepreneurs sharing how they worked with these venture capitalists to grow world-class companies like Intel, Apple, Cisco, Atari, Genentech, Tandem and others.

Dec 3rd 245  to 415pm  Post Screening Discussion - The Cranium Office

Dec 3rd 430 to 6pm  -    Charlie Russel On Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) - The Cranium Office

Charlie will be with us once again in our '2014 Cloud Dreams' series to discuss IaaSs. Charlie is a chemist by education, an electrician by trade, a UNIX sysadmin and Oracle DBA because he raised his hand when he should have known better, an IT Director and consultant by default, and a writer by choice, Charlie is a STEP speaker and the author of more than 2 dozen computer books on operating systems and enterprise environments.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is one of the three fundamental service models of cloud computing alongside Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). Providing access to a Virtualized Environment "The Cloud" provides resouvces and infrastructure to allow scalablity and growth in ways that have before been unfathomable in computing infrastructure. With offerings as virtual server space, network connections, bandwidth, IP addresses and load balancers cloud providers offer a pool of hardware resources pulled from a geographically dispersed array of servers and networks distributed across numerous data centers, all of which is maintained by the Cloud Host.

You, the client are given access to the virtualized components in order to build your own IT platforms.

Charlie always provides great knowledge and know how and is happy to share with VanTUG.

Join Charlie Russel on IaaS  Dec 3

Dec 3rd 630pm to 830 pm Brian Bourne  from TAGIF.CA Presents "Covering my IaaS: Security and Extending the Datacenter"

Brian has been an active member of the IT community since the early 90’s. Today he provides leadership to CMS Consulting Inc., Infrastructure Guardian Inc. and is probably best known for being a co-founder of both the Security Education Conference in Toronto (SecTor) and the TASK user group. His goal with TAG:IF was to emulate the success of TASK and bring the same knowledge sharing to the Azure technologies.

It might still be “early days”, but cloud based infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings are maturing fast and becoming financially compelling. If you haven’t started to look at these services, you’ll need to sooner than later. Of course, extending your datacenter outside of your datacenter has just a couple of security implications (that was sarcasm).
This talk will first focus on what services are available and how those services work (focus on Amazon and Microsoft Azure). We’ll discuss what’s involved in enabling those services and what security implications need careful planning. We'll be sharing practical considerations and examples from the war chest to help you cover your IaaS.

Join Brian Bourne President CMS Consulting Inc - 630 to 830 pm - The Cranium Office
